Room “Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Velha”

    Room “University of Coimbra”

The University of Coimbra has been classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and is one of the oldest universities in Europe. One of the points to visit is, without a doubt, the Joanina Library, the Weapons Room, the Capelos Room and the University Tower.

    Room “Coimbra's Old Cathedral”

Looking like a castle, the “Coimbra's Old Cathedral” was built in 1139 by Afonso Henriques, when he declared himself king of Portugal and chose the city of Coimbra as the capital. It is one of the most important Romanesque buildings in the country.

    Room “Mermaid's Garden”

The Santa Cruz Park, better known as “Mermaid's Garden”, was part of the Santa Cruz Monastery and dates from the 18th century. The entrance to these gardens is through a triumphal arch, decorated by three statues that symbolize Faith, Hope and Charity, and is surrounded by two towers with baroque-style ornaments.

Room “Portugal for the Little Ones”

“Portugal for the Little Ones” is a miniature garden park, representative of the Architectural Heritage of Portugal, not only in terms of architectural styles, but also in terms of the different types of construction in each region. It's a mini-world for kids, but also for adults.

    Room “Quinta das Lágrimas”

Scene of love and tragedy of the real portuguese “Romeo and Juliet”, the former residence of Inês de Castro is today a beautiful hotel. But the source where she was allegedly murdered still remains, as does the aura of mystery and passion she represents. Must be visited!

    Room “Coimbra's New Cathedral”

The “Coimbra's New Cathedral” is located in Largo da Feira and is the seat of the Diocese of Coimbra. It is close to the University of Coimbra, and in 1541 it was the Jesuit College Church, when they settled in Coimbra. The architecture complies with the Jesuit architectural canons, displaying a sober and austere appearance.

    Room “Almedina Arch”

The “Almedina Arch” was the main door of the medieval wall, dating back to the 9th century as indicated by the toponym of Arab origin, which means “the city”. The Almedina Tower, built on top of the Almedina Arch, had the function of guarding and defending the main access door to the interior of the wall.

    Room “Mondego River”

The Mondego River is the fifth longest river in Portugal and the longest entirely portuguese river. It rises in Serra da Estrela, crosses three districts and passes through the city of Coimbra, flowing into the Atlantic Ocean, near the city of Figueira da Foz. The Mondego river course is of incomparable magnitude and beauty, as well as the sports practiced here!

    Room “Botanical Garden”

The Botanical Garden of the University of Coimbra has been located in the heart of the city of Coimbra since 1772, on the initiative of the Marquis of Pombal. The plant collections that fill each space, transport us to different latitudes and regions of the world, transforming the Garden into a true living museum.

The location is great right in the heart of the action. Having coffee and bottled water available in the shared kitchen was great. We didn’t cook in the kitchen so I can’t comment on that. We were on the top floor so a number of stairs to get there, but we are in good shape and had no issues and Liliana offered to help with the luggage. We were in the room called Jardim Sereia.

Nicely located in the old town, it is a perfect place to start exploring the city or joing a tour. The rooms are very clean, well maintained and look like new/freshly renovated. The staff is nice and welcoming – same as the entire Hotel. The bed is clean and comfortable and make this hotel all in all a great place to stay – especially (but not only) considering the price.

Staff was wonderful and it was a clean hotel. It was located in a more residential part of town easy accessible from Coimbra train station (you have to get the train from Coimbra-B, but it’s a 5 minute ride).
